Why Did Odysseus Stab Polyphemus? [Solved]

Odysseus was tempted to kill Polyphemus by stabbing him into his liver. He did not kill him because only the Cyclops could move the massive boulder that blocked the exit/entrance of the cave. If he had killed him, they’d be stuck in the cave forever and die there.

Why does Odysseus not kill Polyphemus right away?
